A few ideas to keep Kaneo simple while making it much more powerful
Problem Statement
No problems, just requesting some features.
Proposed Solution
Hi!
Thank you for building Kaneo. I’ve tried many project management tools over the years, and I really appreciate Kaneo’s focus on simplicity.
I have a few feature suggestions that I believe would significantly improve the user experience without compromising that simplicity.
1. Quick Capture (Inbox)
A dedicated Inbox (or "Quick Capture") where users can instantly save ideas, notes, or tasks without choosing a project, labels, or other metadata first. This could simply be a small + button that opens a quick entry field.
Later, users can process their Inbox items by assigning them to the appropriate project, list, or task.
This prevents losing ideas while keeping the workflow frictionless.
2. Higher-Level Organization (Visions & Life Areas)
Projects are great, but many people organize their work at a higher level.
A possible hierarchy could be: Vision → Life Area → Project → Task.
Vision is a long-term objective or desired future (e.g., "Become financially independent" or "Build a successful business").
Each Vision could include:
Description and some notes
Images (like a small vision board)
Related Life Areas
Life Area (Major Goal) is a category containing multiple related projects.
Examples:
Health
Career
Business
Personal Development
Family
This would help organize larger collections of projects and keep the sidebar much cleaner.
3. Milestones & Progress Forecasts
Allow users to create milestones that represent review points during a project.
For each milestone, users could define expectations such as:
Date
Expected completion percentage
Expected number of completed tasks
Example:
July 6, 2027 → 50% complete (5 of 10 tasks)
Kaneo could gently notify users when milestones are approaching or when progress is behind schedule.
This would make long-term projects much easier to monitor.
4. Dashboard (Quick Overview)
A lightweight dashboard showing the current state of work at a glance.
Examples:
Tasks due today
Upcoming deadlines
Overdue tasks
Recently completed tasks
Projects at risk
Overall completion percentages
Current workload
This gives users an immediate understanding of where their attention is needed.
5. Analytics & Insights
For users who enjoy tracking progress, an optional analytics section would be extremely valuable.
Possible visualizations include:
Project progress over time
Completed vs. created tasks
Productivity trends
Burndown/progress charts
Time-to-completion trends (without requiring time tracking)
Task completion heatmaps
Completion rates by project or life area
The goal isn't just statistics—it is helping users identify patterns, stay motivated, and make better planning decisions.
General Suggestion
The biggest strength of Kaneo is its simplicity. I think these features should remain completely optional, allowing users to enable only the capabilities they need.
That way, beginners still get a clean and lightweight project manager, while other users can gradually unlock more advanced organization, planning, and reporting features.
Thanks again for the great work!

Quick capture is a good idea. About Higher-level organization i think we are losing simplicity on this one. Dashboard, yes please. Analytics & Insights why not, could be interesting but later

1 "simple" feature: on a workspace's page, expand projects so as to view work items in them, with the possibility to sort/filter.
Goal: overview of all important tasks in all projects

Milestones and another abstraction layer on top of projects would be nice.
